Michigan Medical Marijuana Card Program backlogged

by admin on October 10, 2010

A little over two years ago the Michigan Medical Marijuana Card program was enacted when voters approved the law authorizing the use of cannabis for medical purposes.   Now, merely two years later, the government marihuana program in Michigan is backlogged with patients.   Over 62,000 patients have filed with the state to get their medical cards, but only about half of them have received them to date.   The fact that there  remains thousands of qualified  patients who haven’t received them is more a byproduct of the inefficiency of  the Michigan system  to distribute the cards in a timely manner, rather than simply patient qualification issues.

Perhaps it is time that the state of Michigan Medical Marihuana program begins to look at privatizing the medical card program by letting private parties open card distributions centers across the state.   The demand for medical marijuana is only going to increase in Michigan, so it would be wise for the state to act now before the problem gets worse.
